Why did my account go inactive? What can I do to get my account out of an inactive or dormant status?

Accounts go to an inactive status when there has not been any transfer activity, such as making a deposit or transfer, for more than 12 months.

To move your account back to active status, make a deposit or transfer to or from your inactive account.

If you do not initiate any transactions, after a total of 24 months of inactivity, your account may be considered dormant.

A dormant account will remain in that status for another 12 months if there is no transaction activity. After a total of 36 months of no activity, the account may begin the process of closure. The exact timing will depend on the unclaimed property regulations in your state.

If you’d like to keep your account open and active, it’s important to initiate a deposit or other transaction at least every 12 months.
