Yes, a bank is a place to store your money. But at Forbright Bank, we believe a bank can also be a force for good in the world. Our commitment to sustainability and financial responsibility comes to life in our portfolio, our operations, and our involvement with the communities we serve – including our partnerships with organizations that share our values.
Our partnership with the National Park Foundation is a great example of a shared commitment to environmental stewardship, rising out of the two organizations’ commitment to protecting and preserving America’s natural treasures for our customers, employees, and the communities we serve. Forbright Bank’s Director of Community Impact Natalie Chapman talks about how Forbright is going beyond traditional bank partnerships to help build a more resilient environment and a more sustainable future.
Why did Forbright Bank choose to partner with the National Park Foundation?
Chapman: The real question is why not!? Forbright Bank’s mission – with its focus on sustainability – aligns with the National Park Foundation’s mission to protect our national parks for future generations. We know our $250,000 donation will help protect the country’s 400+ national parks and help connect more people with them – that’s incredibly important to building a more sustainable future. Everyday life can be exhausting – that’s one reason we want to make banking as easy as possible – but when people can go outdoors to recharge with their families and friends, we want to make sure the environment and our natural resources are well maintained for future generations. That’s a vision shared by both Forbright and the National Park Foundation.
What are some of the projects this partnership might support?
Chapman: Our donation will support National Park Foundation’s initiatives such as expanding in-park EV charging infrastructure and advancing wetland restoration to increase carbon storage. We also will continue engaging with the National Park Foundation through employee initiatives and special offerings. How are Forbright Bank employees engaging in National Park Foundation activities?
Chapman: The team at Forbright is so passionate about our mission, and employees have already engaged with the National Park Foundation in many ways. In April, we hosted National Park Foundation’s Chief External Affairs Officer, Dawn Rodney, for an employee lunch and learn. This summer, employees will have the opportunity to compete in a company steps challenge, virtually visiting national parks coast to coast. We also plan to host an employee volunteer event at a national park during the bank’s annual volunteer month in October. These learning and volunteer opportunities are an important way of connecting our employees with national parks.
How does this partnership fit in with Forbright Bank’s overall community initiatives?
Chapman: One of our three sustainability pillars is supporting our communities. We do this through strategic partnerships with nonprofit organizations, philanthropic giving, and employee volunteerism. National parks are critical to our communities. In fact, most Americans live within 100 miles of a national park—places for recreation, preservation, and education. By partnering with the National Park Foundation, we are supporting national treasures that are important to our employees, customers, and clients.
